Our take on ENGIE
ENGIE is a large, French-owned retailer that only recently took on this name, having traded as Simply Energy for years beforehand. Some of its public recognition is genuinely strong: the Australian Customer Experience Professionals Association ranked it first nationally for call-centre experience in early 2025, and it has picked up "Business Energy Provider of the Year" and state-level "Outstanding Value" awards.
That sits oddly alongside its review scores. Trustpilot has it at a middling 3.6 out of 5, but ProductReview.com.au, which tends to attract a much larger and more representative pool of everyday customers, puts it at just 1.3 out of 5. That is a wide enough gap that we would not take either number at face value, and it is worth reading a handful of recent reviews yourself before deciding. Its perks-based plans and solar options can be genuinely useful if you already bank with NRMA or hold a Seniors Card, but compare the actual dollar pricing at your address rather than the discount headline.
