July 2026: what just changed
The annual DMO and VDO price resets took effect on 1 July 2026. NSW and SEQ flat rate standing offer prices dropped 3.4% to 7.2%. Victoria's VDO dropped approximately 3%. South Australia flat rate rose 1.4%. The new Solar Sharer Offer (3 hours free daytime electricity) launched in NSW, QLD, and SA for households with smart meters. Retailers are actively competing for customers during this period, so the deals available now are typically the best of the year.

The Solar Sharer Offer launched on 1 July 2026 in NSW, Queensland (SEQ), and South Australia. This gives households with a smart meter three hours of free electricity during the middle of the day (11am to 2pm in NSW and QLD, 12pm to 3pm in SA), up to 24 kWh per day. You do not need solar panels. All retailers with more than 1,000 customers must offer it.
For households with solar, the best deal depends on your feed-in tariff rate, which varies significantly between retailers. Compare feed-in rates as well as usage rates when switching.
