Gas in Queensland
Natural gas availability in Queensland is limited to parts of South East Queensland (Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich) and a small number of regional centres. Most Queensland homes do not have access to mains gas and rely on electricity for heating, hot water, and cooking, or use bottled LPG.
Where mains gas is available in SEQ, Australian Gas Networks operates the distribution network. Retail competition exists but with fewer options than NSW or Victoria. AGL, Origin, and a small number of other retailers offer gas plans in SEQ.

Gas is a minor part of the energy landscape in Queensland compared to southern states. The warm climate means gas heating is rarely needed, and many QLD homes are already all-electric. If you do have a gas connection, it is likely for cooking and hot water only. Check whether your daily supply charge is costing more than your actual gas usage. If so, disconnecting gas and switching to an electric hot water heat pump and induction cooktop may be cheaper overall.
